Calatonia Therapy Miami provides gentle, touch-based nervous system regulation as adjunct care.
This work is intended to complement psychotherapy, psychiatry, medical treatment, and integrative care plans.
Sessions focus on autonomic and somatic regulation through slow, neutral sensory input and do not involve diagnosis, treatment, or interpretation of psychological material.
Scope of Practice
Calatonia Therapy Miami operates within a non-diagnostic, adjunct scope of care.
This work:
-
Does not assess, diagnose, or treat mental health conditions
-
Does not replace psychotherapy, psychiatry, or medical care
-
Does not involve trauma processing, memory retrieval, or verbal analysis
-
Does not interfere with existing treatment plans
Calatonia may support nervous system regulation alongside licensed care.

What Is Calatonia?
Calatonia is a gentle, structured touch method developed by Hungarian physician Dr. Pethö Sándor.
It uses light, precise contact—most commonly at the feet—to provide non-stimulating sensory input to the nervous system. Sessions are non-verbal, non-directive, and paced according to physiological response rather than cognitive engagement.
This bottom-up approach supports regulation without requiring insight, narrative processing, or emotional effort.

Calatonia engages both the somatic and autonomic nervous systems.
-
Gentle touch activates somatic sensory pathways
-
Predictable, non-threatening input supports autonomic settling
-
Parasympathetic activity (“rest and regulate”) may increase
-
Chronic stress signaling may soften over time
Because the intervention is slow and neutral, it is generally well-tolerated by individuals who have difficulty settling through insight-based or activation-heavy approaches.

Appropriate Referrals
Calatonia may be appropriate as adjunct support for individuals who:
-
Experience chronic stress or nervous system overload
-
Have difficulty settling despite talk-based therapy
-
Present with persistent tension, fatigue, or hyperarousal
-

-

This work is not positioned as trauma treatment or psychotherapy.
